The PADI Open Water Diver Course is your gateway into scuba diving — a globally recognised certification designed for beginners and completed over three unforgettable days. With our experienced instructors, you’ll learn the essentials through a mix of fun theory, pool training, and four open water dives on Komodo’s vibrant reefs.
You’ll build confidence, master buoyancy, get comfortable with the equipment, and experience your first real dive sites in one of the most spectacular marine environments in Indonesia. By the end, you’ll earn your PADI Open Water Diver certification, allowing you to dive with a buddy to 18 metres anywhere in the world.

Prerequisites
- Minimum age of 10 years old (participants under 15 receive a Junior Open Water Diver certification).
- Ability to swim 200 meters (or 300 meters with mask, fins, and snorkel).
- Comfort in water and basic water skills (floating, treading water).
- Completion of a medical questionnaire; a doctor's approval may be required for certain medical conditions.
What You Learn
- Essential Scuba Skills: Master buoyancy control, mask clearing, regulator recovery, and other core underwater techniques in both confined and open water.
- Dive Equipment Use: Learn how to assemble, use, and care for your gear — including your regulator, BCD, tank, mask, fins, and dive computer.
- Dive Theory Basics: Understand how pressure, buoyancy, and breathing work underwater, plus key physics and physiology concepts.
- Safety & Problem Management: Build safe diving habits through dive planning, emergency procedures, and handling underwater challenges.
- Underwater Navigation: Practice basic navigation skills to explore confidently and return to your starting point.

What Your Day Looks Like

Before Day 1 – eLearning & Theory
Ahead of your course, you’ll complete the PADI eLearning at home so you can arrive in Komodo ready to focus on the fun parts — diving. If you haven’t finished it before you get here, we’ll help you wrap up any remaining theory and quizzes with your instructor.
DAY 1 - Poolside Beginnings & Confined Water
Your course kicks off with a relaxed, engaging start at the dive centre and pool.
What to expect:
- Meet your instructor and fellow students, go over the course plan, and chat through any questions from your eLearning
- Quick review of the key theory: pressure, equalisation, buoyancy, equipment, and basic dive planning
- Get fitted for your scuba gear and learn how everything fits and functions
- Head to the training pool to practise your first confined water skills in a calm, controlled environment
- Build confidence with breathing underwater, basic control, and simple problem-solving skills before heading to the ocean

DAY 2 - First Ocean Dives & Skill Practice
Time to take what you’ve learned into Komodo’s real underwater world.
What to expect:
- Two open water dives at beautiful, beginner-friendly sites chosen for the day’s conditions
- Apply your pool skills in the ocean with your instructor right beside you
- Practise buoyancy, mask clearing, regulator recovery, and underwater communication in real conditions
- Start to relax into the dives, enjoy the reef, and get used to thinking and moving like a diver
- Short debriefs between dives to review what went well and what to fine-tune on Day 3

DAY 3 - Deeper Exploration & Certification
Your final day is all about consolidating skills and completing your certification.
What to expect:
- Two more open water dives, reaching a maximum depth of 18 metres
- Demonstrate the key skills you’ve learned while exploring slightly more advanced sites
- Refine buoyancy, awareness, and control so dives feel smoother and more natural
- Final knowledge checks, paperwork, and a debrief with your instructor
- Finish the course as a PADI Open Water Diver, certified to dive with a buddy anywhere in the world
